The trip I had planned for Arizona and New Mexico this year was reduced to a week in southeast AZ due to a new job and some other things. I had hoped to find and photo P. cornutum, P. modestum, P. solare and both montane and desert versions of P. hernandesi.

Here are the Phrynosoma that I was afforded the pleasure of finding and photographing this year:

Has anyone been hiking in the Baboquivari's aside from around Kitt Peak? I don't recall seeing any posts about this area and as mentioned in the AZ Field Guides, it has pyromelana, triaspis and trigris and although it's not been reported, maybe even Oxybelis. It seems like an area that no one has really reported on. Anyone with experience? If so or not, is anyone interested in a trip or two to this area? DSM (Dr. Joe)

The last half of our South African trip was spent in down in the low country near Kruger National Park. I love the scenery of the high country, but always look forward to hanging with the big mammals near Kruger.

My attempt at seeing 200 species in a year has come to a conclusion, and boy what a year it was! I ended the year by leading another herp safari to South Africa over the New Year. We started the trip a few hours south of Johannesburg in the high elevation grasslands of the Free State.

There is a mystery frog that inhabits these hills, breeding in marshy seeps and...

Whether you're out there with snakes as your focus or not, we all stop to check out the Phrynos when we find them. This year was definitely filled with horned lizard sightings for me. I herped the habitat of eight different species and found six of those. Here's the break down in numbers for all species searched for, seen or not:

Jerry Feldner's recent post in the AHA forum reinitiated my pursuit about the following. He posted "Uncloudy's comments in another thread set me to searching for information about Crotalid vs. Colubrid evolution and for answers as to why Lampropeltis spp seem to be immune to Crotalid venom."

I've been thinking about this...
